Building on the success of the November 2007 conference and in response to local need, a second STR convention was facilitated by YHIP in May 2009. The aims of the Convention were:
- To introduce the STR competency framework
- To gain an insight into a carer perspective of the STR role
- To share and develop good practice
- To develop and maintain networks
- To identify learning and development needs
- To discuss issues relating to the introduction and integration of the STR role
In addition to a national presentation from the Department of Health, presentations were delivered by a carer and a number of STR workers which demonstrated the diverse workforce the STR role attracts, specifically in age and life experience and those people who have personal experience of mental health services.
The convention was attended by approximately 50 delegates and evaluated extremely well, providing a wealth of information about the benefits, learning and development needs and the implementation of the role across the Yorkshire and Humber region. The opportunity to meet and share good practice with other STR workers was seen as a real benefit with more networking opportunities, conventions and the sharing of information identified as having a positive impact on the ongoing development of the STR role.
