Video translations of the Mental Health Act now available free online

headshot of translatorThe Yorkshire and Humber Improvement Partnership (YHIP) have made video translations of patients rights from The Mental Heath Act available free of charge online.

The videos, which feature translations into 28 languages, were originally produced onto DVD by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (with support from other organisations including the East Midlands development centre). YHIP have built on this excellent work by hosting the videos online. This means that anyone with an internet connection can now easily watch the video translations.

It is a legal requirement of the Mental Health Act that anyone formally detained under the Act has to be informed of his or her rights. It is recognised that this should be conducted at the earliest opportunity and be mindful of the patient’s first language / communication needs to assist in their understanding.

The online videos mean it is now very easy for the translations to be quickly accessed anywhere with an internet connection.

The videos contain translations into Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, British Sign Language, English, English Sign Language, French, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Lithuanian, Mandarin, Pashto, Patois, Polish, Portugese, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Sylheti, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.
