Video Translations of the Mental Health Act Patient Rights

It is a legal requirement of the Mental Health Act (1983) Amended (2007) for persons formally detained under the Act to be informed of their rights. It is recognised that this should be conducted at the earliest opportunity and facilitated in an appropriate way, mindful of the patient’s first language and communication needs to assist in their understanding. It is also important that detained patients can be provided with a written copy of their rights for later reference/and or for family members, carers and advocates assisting them in that understanding.

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have produced video translations of the Mental Health Act into 25 different languages onto a set of DVDs. YHIP have developed this fantastic work even further by hosting the videos online to allow easy, free and speedy access to the videos to anyone with an internet connection.

You can watch the videos by clicking on a language of your choice from the menu on the left of this page, or from the list of languages below.
