The focus of the programme was employment, recovery and inclusion and it was delivered via a series of six action learning sets and three field trips, finishing with a "Celebration Event" in January 2011. The programme was delivered using a co-production approach, working with users and carers as equal partners and utilising there skills, experience and expertise to improve services. The aim of the ALIPP was to develop collaborative relationships between frontline staff and users and cares that will continue to influence service development beyond the life of programme.
The programme has provided a supported learning environment using a variety of learning experiences i.e. experts by experience, field trips, action learning, good practice examples and an opportunity for peer support and review.
The programme provided a learning opportunity for two people, with good communication and leadership skills, from seven mental health provider trusts in the region. One of which was a service user or carer who is, or has, recently used the services of the organisation, the second of whom was a mental health professional currently working in acute or community services e.g. care coordinator, lead professional, ward manager, team leader.
Attendees worked in partnership to identify, implement and evaluate a change that impacted on service or team and demonstrates an improved service user experience in relation to employment. They also presented a number of recommendations to their senior sponsor that will have a positive impact on the employment, recovery and inclusion outcomes for service users and promote a cultural shift across the wider organisation.
The presentation of changes and recommendations took place at the ‘Celebration Event' were attendees received a certificate of attendance and an award was presented to Stuart and John from NYYPCT for the most innovative approach.
